Used Sewing Machine – Getting the Most Out of Yours
Posted in Featured | 5 Comments »
So you’ve just recently purchased a used sewing machine for your home clothing and design exploits? Well, that’s a very wise move indeed because you really wouldn’t want to be messing around with a new once just yet. The problem is, as cheap as you may have gotten that piece of home equipment, you can never really tell how long it’s going to last. So, how do you get the most out of your newly purchased sewing machine? Simple – by taking good care of it.
Before you start tinkering around your newly purchased used sewing machine, you might want to check up more on its unique features first. Most people do tend to miss the manual and just skip directly to working on their creations which can result to additional pressure on an already old piece of equipment, which can further shorten its lifespan.
Check the manual first. Of course, it’s very possible that you won’t be getting a manual in your purchase since most people misplace them anyways. But there are ways and means that you’ll still be able to get your hands on one. If physical manuals (booklet forms) are no longer available, check with the manufacturer of your used sewing machine. They may still be able to provide you with online copies of older manuals or similar models that can easily get you started.
Once you’ve gotten more familiar with your machine, it’s time to do a little manual labor, namely; cleaning the machine. For one, used sewing machines will have everything included in your purchase – including the dust, rust, and thread accumulation in unwanted areas, which can affect the quality of your work later on. So be sure to deal with this first, you‘ll be thankful that you did later on.
After all the cleaning has been done, it’s time to bring your used sewing machine back to life by giving it a little oil here and there. Accordingly, you might also want to wipe any oil that has accumulated along with dirt on any of the areas in your machine that you may find and coat them with new ones.
Check your machine for any loose screws and tighten them as necessary. If you find missing screws within the used sewing machine that you purchased, refrain from using it until replacement has been made. Loose or missing screws can cause huge damage in your machine (especially if you machine is electrical), not to mention increase the likelihood of physical injuries.
For electrical used sewing machine, you’ll have more to deal with, as you will also need to check for exposed wires or disconnected wirings. You also need to check the main plug that provides power to your machine as wear and tear can cause them to become faulty leading to malfunction or electrical shortages.
With proper care and maintenance, you’ll be able to prolong the life of your used sewing machine and get the most out of your money. By following the simple steps mentioned above, you’ll soon be able to enjoy all the benefits that your sewing machine can give regardless of whether it’s been slightly used or overused in the past.
