mom-made dress

i have had a hankering to sew again lately. i think it was the brand new machine i got at a rummage sale for dirt cheap not too long ago. an ex-husband gift to an angry ex-wife was to my advantage. anyway, i wanted to brave the world of patterns, to no avail. i used the simplicity pattern (it wasn’t so simplistic to my sewing skillz) to simply cut out the pieces of fabric. i got to about no. 3 in the list of 15 instructions and tossed it aside and did it how i wanted. yep, it looks home-made, but my child is still to young to care and wore it to church prouder than punch this morning. who would have ever thought my daughter would wear a sundress in temperatures in the sixties (maybe fifties)? we’re adapting. focus, kristy….away from the weather and back to the dress: i left the shoulder ties a little long, hoping she can wear it again next summer. or maybe over a shirt this fall. she liked the unique front pocket for stashing her tiny stuff for church…

LOVE it!! i haven’t braved patterns yet. i probably should. but i’m just afraid i would do just what you did and toss it!
that is so cute - my girl saw it just now and asked about it!
the paci question - how old’s lilly now? sorry, i can’t remember. the littlest was like my second and didn’t care that much for one - so no issue at all to pull it. my girl, on the other hand, was like my first - do you remember that? good grief. he was 2 1/2 and my girl was a full 3 when we pulled it a few weeks ago.
we talked about how babies love pacis. need pacis sometimes. but that big people don’t and talked about all of the big girls she looks up to (you know the drill - probably the same one you tried!) and how we’d put her paci in a special place that she can look at it when she grows up. (she still LOVES babies) so we talked about how we’d buy brand new ones for some pregnant mommies we know. and, because she loves coloring and decorating, we let her color her last 3 pacis with pretty colored permanent markers (ridiculous, i know - but it was her idea and who was i to argue if she’d just give it up!?) so, she did, we did, and then we wore her out playing so that she’d just about pass out. and we reminded her, about the babies when she got whiney. but she was kinda ready because it wasn’t terrible, much like the first child, even though, i have no doubt they both would take a paci to college if we had let them. we had tried other times before, and it was terrible. you’re SO not alone! chickadee of afamiliarpath.blogspot.com talked about it a while back - you could search her site for “pacifier” - pretty funny!
good luck!!
