freezer of “reds”

mike had a truly alaskan experience a week and a half or so ago thanks to his friend, paulo, husband of my closest friend in AK, sarah. he went dip netting with paulo and another friend of paulo’s. the idea is to take these huge nets and stick them down in wildly raging rivers and the red salmon just swim into them and one pulls them up. sounds pretty simple. NOT! he had a blast but his hands and wrists were so sore from sweeping the water while standing on a little rock jutting out over the current for, well, all day, that he couldn’t hardly move. great excuse when it’s time to bathe the kids! ha, just kidding. our freezer is full. we are blessed.
the guys left one evening about 5:30, drove for a few hours to Chitina, AK to the Copper River and slept in the mini van. then they got up to catch the 5 am boat and fished all day. caught their limit (29 reds and 1 king each) then drove home. mike said the drive was incredibly beautiful!
we have eaten grilled salmon 3 or 4 times already and are really loving it. the girls are working on their taste for it:) sorry home folks, we checked with UPS and it would cost over $100 to ship 10 pounds of it. so, you’ll just have to come here to eat it.
whilst the guys were dipnetting, sarah and i took our 5 children out for pizza and rented a movie and chilled at our place. then the kiddos went to bed and we watched a chick flick. word to the wise: don’t carry a 6 year old groggy headed boy to the car who’s had supreme pizza for supper! if you do, you’ll be in for a big laugh!

Put me on the list of eating a salmon supper at your house!

Why does it freak me out so much to hear we “took our 5 children…”, knowing a large percentage of them were mine?!?!? ACK!!! What a fun time, though.
