mom’s visit

i think this has been my longest time without posting. at least in a while. we’ve been really busy lately. my family came to visit for a couple of weeks and my mom is leaving today. we hate to see her go back to AR. and she had just gotten more used to the cooler weather! she’ll just have to come back because we’ve really enjoyed it. and done lots of tourist stuff with her here.

the pictures are of me and her at the Little Susitna River and then all of us at Portage Glacier. great fun. it’s been 10 years almost since mike and i visited AK on our honeymoon so it was a real treat to go to a glacier again. they’re so massive it is incredible. and the blue color is striking. they’re blue because they are so compacted that the ice doesn’t absorb the blue “streak” of the spectrum. weird, but beautiful.img_0374_2.jpg

    I know you’ve enjoyed your mom’s visit. So glad you had such quality time together. I cannot believe how relaxed y’all look since moving to Alaska. It’s been a good move.

    The girls are growing up so fast. When I showed little David the video clips, he said, “What! You mean that’s Abby and Lilly?” He and Kevin are looking forward to Christmas and seeing them again.

    I’ve heard that family visits are like dead fish, after three days you need to throw them out. But Kristy, Mike and the girls kept me for two whole weeks! They are real troopers, huh? Seriously, the trip was wonderful. The pictures were three of about five hundred I think. The scenery was beautiful but not as beautiful as the four people I came to see. My two weeks were over much too fast for me but I am home and have slept for a couple of hours after the all night flight. Stay tuned to my blog for more pics of the trip after I recover just a bit.

    Great information about the glacier-I didnt know that about the blue streak.It looks like you all had a wonderful visit.

    Oh wow, I want to go to Akaska!!!!! I know it was great to get to spend that time with your mom. I am sure it is hard being away from family.
